When starting a virtual machine you get:

The temporary workaround is to comment out ‘pam_system.so’ in system-auth and system-login..

The packages for syslog-ng since version 3.27.1-1.0 appears to have been built without systemd support. Although their PKGBUILD runs configure with –enable-systemd, running syslog-ng –version shows Enable-Systemd: off. The official Arch x86_64 package (at version 3.28.1-1) doesn’t exhibit this problem.

I tried building the package locally on i686 using the official Arch PKGBUILD and could not reproduce the problem. My locally built version correctly finds libsystemd during configure, and gets built with systemd support. This leads me to believe the problem happens somewhere in the Archlinux32 build process.

The practical upshot of the problem is that the systemd unit file supplied with syslog-ng lists it as a Type=notify service, but when it fails to notify systemd after startup, systemd eventually kills it and restarts it repeatedly:

16.12.2017 - The best, I can get is trying to compile the git HEAD with clisp (instead of sbcl). However, this still errors with: entering make-target-2.sh

11.04.2018 - samba-4.7.5-1.0 smbclient-4.7.5-1.0 libwbclient-4.7.6-1.0. Downgrading those three packages to 4.7.4 as a temporary workaround.

In s-tui 1.1.3-2.0, the run script /usr/bin/s-tui is missing. Only the files under /usr/lib/python3.10 are included in the package.

In the upstream Arch package the file is included: https://archlinux.org/packages/community/any/s-tui/

Rebuilding the package on a pentium4 machine resulted in a correct package. I cannot find any Arch Linux 32 specific PKGBUILD, so I’m not sure where this problem comes from. Maybe just rebuilding the package will fix it.

i read on the web somewhere that all QT programs search the system very aggressively searching for any QT libs it can find (and presumably selecting the newest)

what i have noticed is that this is an interaction between the packages: ‘qt5-styleplugins’ (the themes) and ‘qt5ct’ (the config system) - the presence of either package alone is not enough to cause the problem - the problem occurs only when the ‘gtk2’ theme is selected in the qt5ct config - this is the default configuration that the parabola LXDE liveISO boots into, that config is prepared when building the ISO; so i did not notice this before; but on a manual install, i noticed the qt5ct program crashes when selecting the theme

to reproduce this symptom:
install both ‘qt5-styleplugins’ and ‘qt5ct’ launch qt5ct
select gtk2 from the “Style” select options

it looks like the latest rebuilds have leap-frogged the version conflict

previously:

Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x50c02) with this library (version 0x50c01)

today:

Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x50c02) with this library (version 0x50c03)

my guess is that either ‘qt5-styleplugins’ or ‘qt5ct’ still need a rebuild
